Blog post 1 ISTE

There are a variety of reasons for a teacher and students to use technology in their classroom in today's world. Technology can make classes engaging for students allowing them to interact with the lecture or PowerPoint as well as giving them and the teacher access to outside tools and resources. From letting students use their smartphones with education based games like kahootz or showing relevant videos, pictures, documents from the internet. Technology allows teachers to teach information to students in a variety of ways and appeals to the different types of learners they can face in the classroom.
Of the ISTE standards there are many which I have not had experience with and the past but the one that appeals most to me is the learner. I feel this is the most meaningful to me because a teacher is constantly learning and adapting as an educator. A teacher will face  a wide range of students who all have their own way of learning things and it is the teachers job to fine tune lessons to their class. The one standard outside my skill set right now is the leader. I am and have always been more of a follower, this has left me with very little experience leading people and keeping people in order which will be a big challenge for me as an educator.
I agree with the term "digital native" for today's youth because they are being raised in a more technological and digital age than others ever experienced growing up. Some children today are using ipads, iphones, and other digital tech before they can even talk and students around my age have had access to computers and laptops for most of our lives as students. Some teachers who are what can be considered "digital immigrants" have a less  intuitive understanding of technology than their "digital native" counterparts. The youth are more likely to be able to troubleshoot problems with computers or understand basic layouts, settings, and functions of websites than teachers in my experience and many teachers have asked students to help them with different IT issues they are having in class. I predict that the students that I will be teaching in the future will have much more intuitive knowledge with the technology than me with things like computers and digital devices of the future.

  1. Hi Noah!
This was a great response! We had a lot in common regarding our answers. I also chose the learner as an ITSE standard that I found meaningful. A lot of the time people think teaching and learning is one-sided, but educators are always learning new things! They're always taking in new information and adapting their classroom and teaching style as a result.

  2. Hello Noah! I like your response for the ISTE standard you felt appealed to you the best. I think it is a great idea to keep learning when you are a teacher and to have the open mind you seem to have! It is true that our generation and those younger are digital natives because, as you pointed out, some of them learned to work an iPad before talking. As we become teachers we will definitely have to keep learning as more technology comes out!

  3. Hey Noah,

I definitely agree with you on the term digital native and about the generations today. They are very wrapped up in tech and seem to know the ins and outs!
