I've worked with Smartphones, laptops, and desktops for most of my life so I am familiar with the basic application and fundamentals of them. That being said I lack a lot of computer competency skills for things outside of looking at YouTube, checking my e-mails, and using basic Microsoft applications. Honestly I mostly use my computer for school, YouTube, and online gaming with my friends from my hometown. In terms of my history with technology and education I was able to interact with the smart board in a prior education course which was really informative and cool. I also have used Tophat in a few prior classes as well as clickers and they were pretty useful considering the class size was rather large.
I hope to learn how to use excel in this class since it is the Microsoft application I am the least familiar with. Also I hope to learn the practical everyday applications of technology in a classroom to keep students informed and engaged in a lesson. My power point skills could be improved as well, I know how to make a power point and do basic things like sounds, design, and other things like that but there are plenty of bells and whistles I don't fully understand.
I work much better in a classroom where I can interact with a teacher ask questions and discuss things in person. Purely online can work but I am a procrastinator so meeting in person also helps me focus up and actually work on what I need to. I tend to look for some clarifications on assignments in case I don't fully understand what is being asked of me or how I would be best suited to approach a problem. That being said I will still take a swing at it if I am unsure and just do what I think is best but it makes me feel more at ease working on the assignment when I can talk to the professor face to face.
