(1) Participation- Lynda.com tutorial
For my ILP I watched a Lynda.com tutorial on educational technology for the classroom, which can be viewed at https://www.lynda.com/Higher-Education-tutorials/What-we-cover/415357/444852-4.html. Lynda tutorials are a great tool to use because there is a wide variety of topics you can learn about. The presentations are split up into sections and they have a full transcript so you can read along with the video. Lynda also has a built in notebook so you can take notes while watching each video.
The video I watched had great visual graphics that presented the information being discussed in a simple and appealing way. I learned a lot of things we covered already in class but also a lot of new things were introduced to me. They talked about how to teach students about fair use and how to determine what is able to be used under fair use and where to find these materials. There was also a great portion dedicated to how to use Microsoft and Google Drive to keep your files organized. This tutorial gave me a variety of tools for things like organization, quiz making, and presentations. Most of these tools were free and a large portion were Google tools making them easily accessible for the classroom.
The tutorial had plenty of informative walk throughs showing which sites they used for each tool and a video example of them using the tools like creating QR codes or converting presentations into videos for your students to use. The only downside to this tutorial is it is basing the lesson on you having a technologically rich classroom. So there will be cases where the digital divide will prevent some of these tools or skills from being useful in the classroom.
These screenshots show the layout of Lynda and shows how Lynda documents which videos you have watched. This QR code was made using the walkthrough from the tutorial and links back to this blog.
